PhD Research

Recommended resources and tips for advanced research

Pro Tip!

Start with the most current research and work your way back in time.

1. Dissertations are the quickest to publish and cover the most recent research.

2. Journals articles take a little longer to publish (3 months to a year).

3. Books take at least a year or more to publish and as a result may not have the most recent data.

Searching Tips

  • Brainstorm for search terms
  • Searching academic databases isn't like searching Google
    • Remember that each database has its own index - search terms that work in one may not work in another
    • Use the subjects and keywords attached to articles as new search terms to broaden your search
  • Cross-reference: go into the past first, and then go into the future
