I know the guy is complicated, but I just love Martin Luther. From his conversion and service for God, to his discovery of Grace and nailing of the 95 theses, and beyond—the guy’s story and impact on the Church gets me fired up. Sue me. So, with this 500th anniversary of the Reformation underway, and because this is the library blog after all, here are some of my favorite Martin Luther quotes and resources—found in our very own B.L. Fisher!

“I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO THAT I SHALL SPEND THE FIRST THREE HOURS IN PRAYER.”

(Said by Luther in response to a question about his day; found in Cyclopedia of Moral and Religious Antedotes - PN6268.R4 A55)

--------------------

“YOU ARE NOT ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU SAY, BUT ALSO FOR WHAT YOU DO NOT SAY.”

Found in Luther Gold: Pure. Refined (Request it through Library Loan!)

--------------------

“THE BIBLE IS ALIVE, IT SPEAKS TO ME; IT HAS FEET, IT RUNS AFTER ME; IT HAS HANDS, IT LAYS HOLD OF ME.”

Miller, Kevin A (Editor). Source: Christian History, 11 no 2 1992, p 2-51. Publication Type: Article, Database: ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials

-------------------

“THOSE SPEAK FOOLISHLY WHO ASCRIBE THEIR ANGER OR THEIR IMPATIENCE TO SUCH AS OFFEND THEM OR TO TRIBULATION. TRIBULATION DOES NOT MAKE PEOPLE IMPATIENT, BUT PROVES THAT THEY ARE IMPATIENT. SO EVERYONE MAY LEARN FROM TRIBULATION HOW HIS HEART IS CONSTITUTED.”

(Commentary on Romans, p 91 - BS2665 .L87 1976)
