Koine Greek Grammar and its accompanying Workbook and Answer Key & Guide have been in the making for decades. It was first a small manual Kairos Greek Grammar; then it grew into a fully integrated and hyperlinked CD that has been published by Logos Bible Software (2005). Now, this current handbook--KOINE GREEK GRAMMAR: A BEGINNING-INTERMEDIATE EXEGETICAL AND PRAGMATIC HANDBOOK--has been thoroughly expanded to include my more explicit description of marked, emphatic, prominent, and pragmatic features of Greek, ideas that were nascent in KAIROS, but now grounded in a communication theory informed by Relevance Theory (Dan Sperber and Deirdre Wilson), Prominence Theory with reference to translation (Kathleen Callow), and Discourse Grammar and Pragmatics (Stephen Levinsohn, Stanley Porter, and Steven Runge). Preface: The world does not another Elementary Greek Grammar There are many fine products on the market that have proven themselves to be useful both in the classroom and for private instruction. The need for this particular grammar arises from the peculiar shape of the MDiv curriculum at Asbury Theological Seminary. Several years ago the faculty adopted a curriculum that required one semester of Greek and one semester of Hebrew, each as preparatory for a basic exegesis course in each discipline. It became clear after several years of trial and error that a "lexical" or "tools" approach to learning Greek and Hebrew was inadequate, no matter how skilled the instructors or how motivated the students. In today's general vacuum of grammatical training in public education across the United States, students typically enter seminary training with no knowledge of how languages work. Any training we might give them in accessing grammatical information through the use of Bible software programs will, we learned, come to naught in the absence of an understanding of just what such information actually means. We agreed that we actually needed to "teach the language itself," at least in some rudimentary fashion, if we hoped students would make sense of grammatical and linguistic issues involved biblical interpretation. The first 12 chapters of this grammar are designed to correspond to the first semester's instructional agenda. In these chapters we introduce all the parts of speech, explain and drill the basic elements of grammar, set forth the larger verb system (excluding the perfect system), teach the tenses of the Indicative Mood only (again, excluding the perfect system), and help students build a vocabulary of all NT words occurring 100 times or more. We also lead students into the NT itself with carefully chosen examples, while at the same time guiding them in each lesson to learn the use of the standard NT lexicon BDAG] and an exegetical grammar Wallace's Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics]. We are well aware of the limitations of this approach, but genuinely believe that some instruction along these lines is better than none, and that such an approach provide a foundation for students interested in moving beyond the first semester (into chapters 13-24) into a firmer grasp of the language of the NT

This grammar of Biblical Aramaic is intended in the first place for the student who wishes to acquire a thorough knowledge of the language of the Aramaic portions of the bible. But it also hopes to stimulate interest in the Aramaic dialects in general and to create a sound basis for further Aramaic studies. It contains a brief but quite full description of the phonetic and grammatical features of Biblical Aramaic, as well as tables of paradigms for the different classes of verbs. Special attention has been paid to the syntax, and the important syntactic data of the language have been treated in special chapters which, however, are kept together with the morphological presentation. A complete glossary of Biblical Aramaic concludes the book. The 7th edition was augmented with an index of biblical citations that was compiled by Daniel M. Gurtner.

This book, put together by a team of scholars, will help readers master Biblical Aramaic. It includes various word lists not found in the BHS Reader.   The book has three basic parts. The first is the Aramaic portions of the Hebrew Bible--Gen 31:47; Jer 10:11; Dan 2:4b-7:28; Ezra 4:8-6:8; 7:12-26--as they are presented in the BHS Reader, with a few modifications: (1) the biblical text has been updated to the BHL version, and (2) the grammatical and lexical apparatus includes new material and uses longer, clearer abbreviations. The second (very short) part of the book is a three-page glossary of the words that occur most frequently in Biblical Aramaic. The book's third part comprises about a dozen vocabulary and verb lists (not found in the BHS Reader) that allow readers to review and master Biblical Aramaic vocabulary and grammar.
