Scripture Citation Search

A guide to using the ATLAReligion database

Index Search

  1. To do an index search, open ATLAReligion Database with ATLASerials and choose "Indexes" at the top of the page.

  2. Under "browse an index" choose "Scripture Citation"

  3. In the "browse for" field, type in the scripture reference

*There are two important things to note:

    • If you are searching for a scripture in a book with multiple volumes, be sure to use the syntax "book name, 1st." For instance, "John, 1st

    • You should only type in the reference down to the chapter level

      • This is chiefly for 2 reasons

        • First, the index is a list that appears in alphanumeric order. This means that all verses with a 1 in the first column will appear before those with a 2. So, 1st John 1:18 appears before 1st John 1:2-4

        • Second, you don't want to miss out on context. A search for 1st John 1:3 would start the list at 1 John 1:3 and cause you to miss passages earlier in the list like 1 John 1:1-2:22 and 1 John 1:2-4 that also contain the verse you are researching
