Athenize Your Links

OpenAthens Logo Use the resources on this page to process an old link with ezproxy information and make it a new "Athenized" link.

First, remove the ezproxy information from the link.

Second, confirm the vendor. A new prefix is used for many of our resources. However, if it is from Ebsco, ProQuest, Gale, or Kanopy use the information in the special section below.

Third, add the new Athenized prefix.

Use the Athenizer to create links to library content.

NOT USED FOR: Ebsco, ProQuest, Gale, and Kanopy URLs. See the special tips section below on constructing those links.

Be sure to TEST your links before sharing them.

Special Links: Ebsco, ProQuest, Gale and Kanopy

Note that the following providers are not Athenized.

Instead, these providers use a customer id in the links to direct you to our account; just be sure these strings are in your links.

  • Ebsco - These links may require modifying the link to change the authtype portion of the link.
    • &custid=asburyth&authtype=shib

  • ProQuest
    • &accountid=8380
  • Gale
    • &u=wilm11217

  • Kanopy
    • asburyseminary.kanopy.com

Have an old proxied link?  Used the deproxifer above to remove that string.

Athenize a Batch of Links

Have a long list of links to Athenize?  You can use this command in a spreadsheet:

If your URL is in A1, pop the following formula in B1:

(Unfortunately the ENCODEURL function is not available in the online or Mac versions of MS Excel; but it does work in LibreOffice)
