Ways to Save References

You can save references to Zotero from your browser, by ISBN, or by manually typing the information in.

From the Internet

  1. Open the Zotero application on your computer.
  2. Click on the "Save to Zotero" button in your browser. Depending on what type of resource you are looking at, the icon will change:
    • Journal Article: Image of Save to Zotero button for articles

  3. If the record has been successfully added to Zotero, a notification will appear in the lower right corner of your browser.

  4. Locate the record in Zotero to view or edit it. Double click on it to open an attached PDF.Image of a record downloaded to Zotero

By ISBN

In the Zotero application, the magic wand icon can be used to add resources by ISBN, DOI, or PMID.

Manually

If the item does not have an ISBN or does not exist on the internet, you can add it to the Zotero application manually.

To add a citation manually:

  1. Click on the green button with the white plus sign on the menu bar
  2. Choose the type of item you want to add. (If you do not see the item type you need, hover your mouse over "More" to see more options.

  3. Fill in the information in the window that appears on the right.

Attach File or Link to Document

Use the paperclip icon in the menu bar to attach a link or file to a record.
